How to Use Organic Choice Soil

In New Raised Beds

When filling a brand new raised bed, use Organic Choice as the only soil in the bed. Five 50 qt. bags of Organic Choice can fill a 4′ x 4′ x 6″ raised bed. Simply spread the soil evenly within the walls of the raised bed.

Once full, plant transplants or seeds then water thoroughly after planting. The bed is ready to grow!

In Existing Raised Beds

To refresh the soil in last year’s raised bed, spread a 2-3 inch layer of Organic Choice over the old soil and mix it in. This will boost nutrients and organic matter without having to completely replace the existing soil.

In In-Ground Beds

Tips for Using Organic Choice

• Test your native soil’s pH and amend Organic Choice with lime if needed to reach a pH between 6.0-7.0. Most plants grow best within this pH range.

• Add 1-2 inches of mulch on top of Organic Choice to retain moisture and reduce weeds. Shredded leaves, wood chips, straw, and finished compost all make good organic mulches.

• Replenish garden beds each year by mixing 1-2 inches of Organic Choice into the top few inches of existing soil. This maintains nutrient levels and organic matter content.
