Farmhouse Rustic Christmas Wreath DIY – A Simple Holiday Craft

The holiday season is upon us which means it’s time to deck those halls! One of the best ways to spread some seasonal cheer is with a classic Christmas wreath on your front door. This year I wanted to create a rustic, farmhouse-style wreath that would complement my home’s cozy, vintage vibe. After scouring Pinterest and brainstorming ideas, I came up with a simple, inexpensive wreath DIY using mostly Dollar Tree finds. With just a few common craft supplies and natural elements, you can make this beautiful wreath in no time!

In this easy tutorial, I’ll walk you through how to make a farmhouse rustic Christmas wreath in just 3 steps. You don’t need any fancy materials or wreath-making skills. The beauty of this project is its simplicity. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need

Here are the supplies you’ll need for this easy DIY wreath:

  • Grapevine wreath form (18 inches) – I picked mine up on sale at Joann’s for less than $10
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Floral wire (optional)
  • Scissors and/or wire cutters
  • Assorted greenery picks from Dollar Tree – I used a mix of cedar, pine, holly and eucalyptus
  • Red and black Buffalo check ribbon
  • Christmas embellishments of your choice (pinecones, berries, mini ornaments, etc.)

That’s it! These are all very inexpensive and readily available craft materials. The great thing about grapevine wreaths is that you can constantly change up the look each year by switching up your greenery and accents.

Step 1: Attach a Festive Bow

I began by taking the Buffalo check ribbon and hand-tying it into a big, fluffy bow. Feel free to make your bow as large or small as you like – just be sure to make the tails long enough to secure to the wreath. Once my bow was tied, I attached it off-center on the wreath form using hot glue. You could also wire the bow in place for extra security.

Tip: Fluff and shape your ribbon while gluing to create a fuller bow.

Step 2: Incorporate Greenery

Next, I took my assorted greenery picks and started layering them onto the wreath form. I like to slide the greenery closer to the top of the pick stems and trim them to my desired length. This allows me to weave and insert the stems through the grapevine easier.

Focus on the areas around the bow first, then fill in the gaps. Create visual interest by mixing up textures and colors. I added touches of red berries, white pine and snowy eucalyptus picks too. Let your creativity run wild!

Step 3: Embellish and Finish

Once I had the base wreath completed, I started embellishing with extra holiday accents. Pinecones, cinnamon sticks, and mini Christmas ornaments added a festive touch. Feel free to get as elaborate as you like here.

The last step was shaping the finished wreath. Fluff up any compressed greenery and balance fullness on both sides. Wire any sections that feel loose. And that’s it – an inexpensive, rustic DIY wreath ready to hang!

Style and Hanging Tips

  • For outdoors, use a weather-proof wreath hanger. Command hooks also work well.

  • Display inside on walls, mantels or as a table centerpiece.

  • Add battery-operated fairy lights for a magical glow.

  • Accent with burlap bows, bells, faux snow and winter berries.

  • Hang clusters of ornaments for extra color and sparkle.

  • Refresh each season by swapping out greenery, ribbons and embellishments.

  • Adorn with pinecones, cinnamon sticks and dried oranges for scent.

This simple farmhouse Christmas wreath came together in no time with basic craft supplies. The natural, rustic vibe pairs perfectly with my vintage-inspired decor. I can’t wait for guests to ooh and aah over it! The best part is that it cost under $20 to make.
