If you need plants in bloom, miniature violets are usually your best choice. These can be sent as mature plants, in full bloom, with little alteration for shipping. When shipping standard violets, we must prune plants and remove excess blooms to safely ship. This makes them inappropriate for use as table centerpieces, and the like. They may, however, still be appropriate for resale at club shows. We cannot ship most other gesneriads in bloom, since we cannot safely ship them as mature plants. You should have these sent to you 4 to 6 weeks before your event so that you have time to pot them up and grow them to bloom. This is easy to do with streptocarpus and kohleria, and can also be done with episcia.
Available blooming plants depend on demand and our stock! Some of our plants aren’t always blooming, and we can’t make them bloom when you want them to! If you need blooming plants for a certain event or time, please call us to check on availability. Please keep in mind that the most people want flowering plants in the spring, fall, and around holidays. This makes it harder for us to meet all of their needs.

How big do African violets grow?
When mature, standard African violets will grow to 10-12″ in diameter as houseplants, much larger when grown for exhibition. Repot young plants into 4″ pot at first bloom. Unless grown for show, a 4 to 5″ pot will be sufficient for most varieties. Repot using fresh soil every 6-9 months.
